Flights to Kampala, Entebbe - Uganda

Ugandan capital Kampala is located near the northern coast of Lake Victoria. The name of the city, founded in 1890, comes from the word "Impala" (a local kind of antelope). Despite the fact that the city is home to about a million people, Kampala remains open, welcoming and safe city, where there are practically no traffic jams, and the people courteous and friendly.

When fly to Uganda

The peak tourist season in Kampala, Uganda happens during summer, particularly in July. However the climate in Southern Uganda stays hot all year round. The great time to visit Kampala is autumn – the time of gorgeous weather and some great festivals like October 9th, The Independence day.

Kampala Transport

Minibuses in the city and surrounding area are many. Each bus (matatu in Ugandan), in addition to the driver also has a co-driver, loudly shouting out the window the direction in which their vehicle is moving. The cost of the trip is 300-500 UGX around the city and 500-1000 UGX around the suburbs and surroundings.

City taxis are easy to catch anywhere in the city centre, as a rule they do not have meters, so bargain before the trip (the usual price of a trip around the city is 5,000 UGX).

Lovers of adrenaline can try to move around the city by bike (boda boda). When you walk down the street, motorcyclists will always stop offering a ride. Drivers interested to get you to the destination as quickly as possible ignore all traffic rules absolutely. To get to any place in the city in this way can cost as low as 1,000 to 2,000 UGX.

If men can ride a motorcycle in the traditional way, for the women in order not to shock the locals, it is recommended to get a seat sideways.

Kampala Cuisine

On the streets in the small eatery they sell a delicious Matoke - mashed green bananas in peanut sauce, the famous rolex, which is a pancake having a cabbage-tomato omelette inside and a grilled white corn.

You can buy lunch at a moderate price at a vegetarian restaurant and Bhagwatt Govindas, popular among the local Indian community, in the food court Garden City, a Chinese restaurant Fang Fang, continental cuisine restaurants New York Kitchen and Just Kicking.

Gourmands should visit the restaurant The Lawns, which offers a taste of the local exotic game, Paradise, specializing in Indian cuisine and the Pyramids, the menu of which has many dishes in the fusion style.

Near the banks of Lake Victoria, Kampala, the capital of Uganda, is a lively city with a long history. Before the British, the city was the capital of the Buganda Kingdom, and remains so to this day. The city sits on several hills, each housing an important government or religious building. Kasubi Hill is the home of the Kasubi Tombs, a sacred burial ground of Buganda Kings. The Uganda Museum sits atop Kololo Hill, and features a hands-on collection of traditional musical instruments.

The people of Kampala, and Ugandans in general, are very kind and friendly and are very approachable.

Kampala, with a population of approximately 2.5 million, is by far the largest city in Uganda. It is not yet completely overwhelmed with traffic and sprawl like Nairobi and Lagos. Additionally, Kampala is very safe to walk around, even at night, a welcome fact for many a high-strung visitor arriving from Nairobi.
