Getting around Bangkok - Transportation

The main public transport in Bangkok is buses and vans. A trip on the air-conditioned bus will cost about 10 THB, without air conditioning about 4 THB. At night the fare is about 5 THB.
Congestion problem can be solved if you use rickshaw (tuk-tuk). This is a comfortable seat with a tent and reckless driver behind the wheel. It is best to agree on the price in advance (the average of 50-100 THB). The most extreme way to bypass Congestion is to use a "motorcycle taxi": a passenger sits behind the driver of the motorcycle.
Taxis come in two types: taxis with meter and taxis without the meter. The fare can vary from 35 to 200 THB depending on the distance. In the «taxi» you can and should bargain: the price is usually agreed in advance.
Skytrain operates over 20 stations and 2 lines. The fare on the subway depends on the distance or the number of stations and ranges from 10 to 40 THB. Automatic turnstile at the exit compares the cost of travel with the cost of the ticket. If the funds are insufficient, the sound of sirens starts, and passengers have to buy an extra ticket. Since 2004, the underground metro is also in operation in Bangkok.
River buses ply the Chao Phraya River on regular routes within the city. They are of two types: conventional (stopping at all points) and express trains. The cost is 10 THB.

Hotels in Bangkok

In Bangkok there are absolutely all sorts of hotels: from the world's best to the world’s worst. Most of the "average" and expensive hotels can be found at Siam Square and Sukhumvit Road and Silo Road, although there you can also find cheaper options.

Entertainment, tours and attractions in Bangkok

The main attraction of the city is the Grand Palace, the residence of the Thai monarchy with a magnificent park and buildings in traditional Thai style. The giant ceremonial swing Lak Muang is installed near the palace on two huge teak columns with carved crossbar.
North of the royal residence the Temple of the Emerald Buddha is located, connected to her gate. It houses one of the shrines of Buddhism, the famous statue of a Buddha seated on the golden altar. Overall there are more than 400 marvellous temples in the city, the most famous among them is the large temple complex of Wat Po with a giant statue of the reclining Buddha, Marble Temple and the Temple of Dawn.
Bangkok has several museums, a planetarium, art gallery and cultural centre. The most popular ones are the National Theatre, the National Museum with a remarkable collection of Thai art and Buddhaysavan Chapel, Thammasat University at Sanam Luang, as well as the Museum of Science, one of the best science and technology museums in the region. In the house of the architect (and a part time spy) Jim Thompson there is now the Museum of silk and a permanent exhibition of antiquities, collected by Thompson in South-East Asia.
The oldest street in the city has got a funny name "New" and leads to the waterfront, where you can go on a long boat trip across the city channels.

Bangkok night Life

The choice of places to go is huge - from traditional Thai dances to cocktail bars, karaoke and discos, equipped with the latest technology. In Bangkok there is a huge number of restaurants, ranging from small street to the most stylish and expensive. There are several floating restaurants where you can combine a delicious dinner with a cruise on the river.
Under the new legislation all the nightlife establishments are closed at 1am and clubs in hotels close at 2am.
